StatementArtist Statement
My work in Fused Glass tends to be minimal with subtle illusions. I like to create elements or an underlying statement that appears only with closer observation. I create narratives and imagery that contain a message, whether a social statement or introspective of dreams. To create hidden illusions I use glow materials or layer text and imagery. One method I use to create text or imagery is Rayzist film and sandblasting and refusing with enamels etched into sheet glass that is then picked up and blown as a layer inside a piece. I also use the films to engrave on the outside after cold working. My desire to create drives me to stretch the limits of what I can do and explore materials. Being able to share ideas and learn techniques in a setting with other artists is essential to growth. I have been blowing glass in a college setting and find working with others very inspiring. My strength is in concept and vision restrained only by my lack of time and experience in this medium. My Fused Glass is also a source for narrative and often contains lyrics, thoughts or poetry and has hints of hidden meaning.
