Lorrie Teates

A fiber enthusiast from earliest years, I discovered felting in all its various form.   I have focused on painting with fiber using wool, silk, embellishing with thread, yarn, rope, beads and all sorts of materials. I am drawn to the natural world around me.  Each fiber painting is unique.  My work has been shown in local galleries and while I am not a "production" artist, I delight in the appreciation of my work.

Urchin Lights was created to explore processes and techniques used to create 3D lighted sculptural works. Using silk and wool fibers I crafted four different sized and colored orbs.  Working in the wet felting method is meditative and opens many creative possibilities as the work progresses. Decisions on mounting the orbs on a light source and how then to display  as a group was a new field to explore.
